Best Practices
Anti-Spam Rules
Spam is the biggest risk to your WhatsApp account. Following these rules protects your number from being banned and preserves your business reputation.
What Does WhatsApp Consider "Spam"?
- Sending messages to people who didn't request contact from you
- Sending identical messages in bulk to many people in a short time
- Using automation tools aggressively or disproportionately
- Sending misleading or repeatedly promotional content
The Golden Rule: Prior Consent
Only message contacts who have explicitly given you permission.
How to obtain consent:
- The customer messaged you first (always the best signal)
- The customer filled a form or subscribed to your WhatsApp list
- The customer agreed to terms that mention receiving messages
Daily Sending Limits
WhatsApp enforces unofficial limits — exceeding them triggers a progressive ban:
| Level | Approximate Limit |
|---|---|
| New number (under 3 months) | 50–100 messages/day |
| Established number (3–12 months) | 200–500 messages/day |
| Old, active number | 1,000+ messages/day |
These are estimates — WhatsApp doesn't publish official numbers. Always err on the side of sending less.
Warning Signs of an Impending Ban
Watch for these signs:
- QR code repeatedly asks to be re-scanned
- Messages send but don't arrive (single tick only for a long time)
- Some numbers are blocking you
- A warning message from WhatsApp inside the app
If you notice any of these, immediately stop bulk sending for 24–48 hours.
Safe Sending Practices
✅ Do
- Ramp up gradually: start with small volumes and increase weekly
- Personalise messages: use the customer's name and variables to make each message unique
- Send at appropriate times: during active hours (9 AM – 9 PM)
- Monitor block rates: in campaign analytics
- Include an opt-out: "Reply STOP to unsubscribe"
❌ Don't
- Don't send to purchased or scraped contact lists
- Don't send more than 3 unanswered messages to the same person
- Don't run a bot that sends non-stop day and night
- Don't copy the exact same message text to thousands of people
- Don't send misleading content or false promises
What to Do If You Receive a WhatsApp Warning
- Stop all campaigns immediately
- Wait at least 48 hours
- Resume sending with much lower volumes
- Review your contact list and remove unresponsive contacts
In cases of a full ban: you may need to change the number and link a fresh one from scratch.
