WhatsApp Coexistence Limitations: What You Need to Know

Are you using WhatsApp Business and Rabt CRM together on the same number? Learn about the key limitations of WhatsApp Coexistence, including the 14-day rule that may cause the connection to expire if you do not open the WhatsApp Business App regularly.
What Is WhatsApp Coexistence?
WhatsApp Coexistence allows you to use your existing WhatsApp Business App and Rabt CRM together on the same number without disconnecting or migrating your number.
When you connect your WhatsApp Business number to Rabt CRM through Coexistence, the number is accessed through the WhatsApp Cloud API. This allows you to:
Continue communicating with customers directly through the WhatsApp Business App.
Reply to the same customers through Rabt CRM while using Cloud API features such as automation, analytics, and multi-user collaboration.
Test API features while keeping your existing chats and contacts.
Critical Warning: The 14-Day Disconnection Rule
If you do not open the WhatsApp Business App for more than 14 days, the connection may expire and you may need to reconnect it.
This is one of the most important limitations to understand when using Coexistence. To maintain your connection:
✅ Open the WhatsApp Business App at least once every 14 days.
If the connection expires, you may need to:
Complete the account connection process again.
Experience a temporary disruption to some messaging capabilities.
Re-sync some previously synchronized conversations.
Tip: Set a weekly reminder to open the WhatsApp Business App to avoid potential issues.
Key WhatsApp Coexistence Limitations
1. Country Availability
WhatsApp Coexistence is currently available in selected countries only, and not all regions support this feature. Make sure it is available in your country before getting started.
2. Chat History Limitations
One-to-one chats only: Individual conversations from the last 6 months can be imported into Rabt CRM.
Group chats: Group chat history is not included in the synchronization.
This option cannot be changed later unless you reconnect the account.
3. Feature Compatibility
Coexistence is not compatible with the WhatsApp Marketing Message Lite API.
Some capabilities, such as chat synchronization, media support, and business profile updates, may differ from a full WhatsApp Cloud API setup.
4. Some Advanced Features May Be Unavailable
Some advanced features available in the WhatsApp Business App may become unavailable after connecting through Coexistence. This includes certain app-specific automation settings and features that cannot be transferred to the WhatsApp Cloud API.
5. Offboarding and Disconnecting
Disconnecting or removing the connection must be done directly from the WhatsApp Business App, not from Rabt CRM.
If you want to disconnect the account:
Open the WhatsApp Business App on your phone.
Go to Settings > Account > Business Platform.
Tap the connected platform, such as Rabt CRM.
Tap Disconnect to confirm.
6. Feature Availability May Vary
WhatsApp Coexistence feature availability may vary depending on:
Your country.
Your WhatsApp Business App version.
Meta's ongoing updates and changes.
Best Practices for WhatsApp Coexistence
Keep the App Active
Open the WhatsApp Business App at least once every 14 days. Setting a weekly reminder is recommended to avoid forgetting.
Assign Contacts Properly
When importing contacts into Rabt CRM, make sure they are assigned to the appropriate user or team to ensure organized follow-up and prevent missed conversations.
Enable Auto Top-Up
Configure automatic top-up for your WhatsApp messaging balance during setup to prevent message delivery interruptions caused by insufficient balance.
Test Automations Gradually
Start by applying automation scenarios on a small scale before rolling them out to all contacts, as Coexistence may behave differently from a full API migration.
Monitor Sync Status
Regularly check that contact and chat synchronization is working correctly. You can see contact synchronization progress, while chat history synchronization progress is not displayed.
Important Notes
Feature availability may vary by country and WhatsApp Business App version.
Some capabilities may differ from a full WhatsApp Cloud API setup.
Always confirm feature availability and applicable restrictions before getting started.
Refer to Meta's official Coexistence documentation for additional details about available features.
When Is WhatsApp Coexistence Right for You?
WhatsApp Coexistence can be suitable in the following situations:
